Introduction to the Workshop

Hello World, Alchemmer here…

If you’re reading this it means you’re looking at all these new, interesting, and somewhat intimidating topics thinking to yourself, ‘where the heck am I going to integrate this into anything that I’m doing’?

This is not only a fair question, but it’s the question we get asked the most across all interactions we at 615 labs have where the topic is brought up.

The simple answer is everywhere.

These skills build a skeletal foundation for engineering your own projects, repairing your pre-existing equipment, or generally building on a triage process whether you’re creating or troubleshooting. As someone who started their career in consumer electronics repair, I can tell you there aren’t many things that this wouldn’t apply to, and anything it doesn’t directly apply to could still apply by proxy. What do I mean by this?

I have taken on and successfully fixed/modified a mountain of different devices in the past with these skills. They include, but are not limited to, some of the following:

Cellphones, tablets, smartwatches, computers, computer components, gaming consoles, drones, 3-d printers, VR headsets, Headphones, TVs, Monitors, household appliances (fans, heaters, dryers, washers, refrigerators, A/C units, air filtration devices, tea kettles, coffee machines), wi-fi hotspots, key fobs, speakers, digital microscopes, accelerometers, power tools, power tool batteries, medical devices, water-damaged devices, forensic/chip-off data recovery, POS systems, conference badges, SAOs, and so much more.

Aside from the things I’ve fixed, modified, or engineered in the past, there have been other projects that have further expanded upon these skills and given me the confidence to pursue other hobbies in my spare time. These could include graphic design, programming, videography, photography, woodworking, additive & subtractive fabrication, blueprinting, painting, sculping, calligraphy, penmanship, composition and more.

You can take patience, troubleshooting, design work, iterative and logical thought, as well as a plethora of other soft skills with you wherever you end up in your career and it will only benefit you in the long run.

With these tools, you can fix, design, modify, or create just about anything. All you have to do is be willing to explore. This is why we carry the motto: “Forma mundam quem vis”

Shape the world you want

615 Labs believes in a world of creation, the right to repair, and full end-user ownership. With this sentiment, a positive and persistent mindset, and the willingness to break a few things along the way, there’s not much stopping you from doing incredible things. We want to give you some of the material you need to get started.
